The arrival of the Proton Saga sedan marks the third model introduction from the Malaysian firm, joining the Proton X50 and X70 SUVs in the CMH Proton Ballito showroom.
What engine does the sedan use?
In South Africa, the Proton Saga comprises three distinct versions, each featuring a 1.3-litre gasoline engine that delivers 70 kW of power and 120 Nm of torque.
The base Saga handles transmission through a standard 5-speed manual gearbox, while the standard and the high-end Saga Premium derivatives offer a 4-speed automatic transmission. Furthermore, the stated fuel consumption stands at 6.7 L/100km.
Proton Saga sedan interior
The Saga’s interior offers basic functionality like 14-inch wheels on the two Saga standard variations, with the automatic variant getting alloy wheels and the manual variant having wheel covers.
Further enhancements include 15-inch alloy wheels and LED daytime running lights added to the Saga Premium to complement the standard Halogen headlights.
Once you delve into the interior, you will find that the feature set is rather elementary. Only the Saga Premium model offers a multifunction steering wheel, while the standard versions lack mounted steering wheel controls.
All models in the range come standard with cloth upholstery, manual air conditioning, and electric windows.
The Saga Premium boasts a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while the other versions feature a rudimentary radio. However, Bluetooth connectivity is standard on all Sagas.
As a means of improving safety, Proton added two front airbags, ABS, with EBD, and brake assist as standard safety equipment on all derivatives. The automatic versions also have hill hold assist, traction control, and hill descent control.
