This year, CMH Proton The Glen introduced our new brand, Proton, to the South African market. What exactly is Proton, you may wonder? Well, Proton, a Malaysian brand, was last in South Africa in 2012 with four models on the market.
We at CMH Proton the Glen are sure that many are aware of the older Proton vehicles that were available back then, but why did they leave, and what led to this return?
Initially, Proton entered the market without doing much market research. What makes things different this time? Besides the fact that it has the backing and direction of the CMH Group, Proton has the financial support of the Geely Group (which owns a 49.9% stake).
The Proton X50 and Proton X70 were launched in Magaliesburg under the theme “We are here to stay” with a promise that they are not going anywhere.
What Do Our Vehicles Have to Offer?
CMH Proton The Glen has two premium SUVs, the Proton X50 and X70. The Proton X70 is slightly larger and offers intelligent features and a comfortable drive.
The Proton X50 is the smaller of the two. It is sporty and boasts an attractive finish, inside and outside.
Both SUVs navigate terrains through a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine connected to a 7-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission. The Proton X70 and the premium X50 have an output of 130 kW and a torque of 255 Nm. All other variants of the X50 use the same motor but detuned to 110 kW and 226 Nm.
The X50 and X70 have active and passive safety features, which include lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and parking assist. And like many affordable premium SUVs in our market, the interior is well-finished and well-equipped with driver displays and infotainment screens.
As a bonus, all Proton vehicles at CMH Proton the Glen will retail with a 5-year unlimited warranty and a 5-year/80 000km launch service plan.
